Intro to the Bass Guitar for the Visually Impaired
This totally tape/CD-driven course teaches the student the names of the parts of the bass guitar, the names of the notes, and the most commonly used rhythm patterns for the bass including: The Pop/Rock Pattern, the Alternate Bass Pattern, the Waltz Pattern, and 6/8 and 9/8 time patterns.
This course is taught totally “by ear” using no written notation making it a good choice for those who don’t read music. The course covers about 3 to 6 months of private lessons. Once you have learned the basics taught in this course you can start learning the Bass by Ear songs at Bass By Ear or go on to Bass Guitar Course 2 (listed below).
Bass Guitar Course 2
If you’ve finished one of Bill Brown’s “Intro” courses to the Bass Guitar and you want to go further then this is the course for you!
In this course you will learn how to play “slap” bass while at the same time learning a few grooves to get you started.
You will also learn the theory to build major, minor, 7th, m7th, and major 7th chords and how to use them. AND there is a whole CD dedicated solely to improvising in Major and Minor keys using both the pentatonic and diatonic scales. Also in this course you will learn both the short and long minor boogie pattern and the “Philly” swing – a “must know” for any serious bassist.
As expected this will all be taught with the detail you have come to expect from Bass by Ear and of course there are lots of practice tracks to play along with – over 70! – in the styles of Funk, Rock, Blues and Gospel.
So, come along and join Bill Brown as he takes your bass guitar playing to the next level!
